foxgloves in sentinel rows,

the dusty cliff path

To the hum of bees

and cuckoo call, I hoick up

creeping buttercup

All spring we’ve heard them,

Baby starlings, chirruping.

Now they’ve grown and flown.

Cow parsley in the hedgerows,

Dust lines the road sides

Dust that once oozed, smooth, rich, brown
